As someone who wants to focus on my actual business instead of on chasing after exciting and time-wasting features and bugs I want to be positively bored by the IT choices I make.

Somewhat-outdated software is not exciting or cutting-edge. Not-cutting-edge is reliable (provided there are no critical security vulnerabilities). Reliable just works.

When something just works, it is boring, because it doesn’t give you reason to fiddle with it to fix it when it inevitably breaks because some developer made some change on a git repository to fix his edge case and for whatever reason the build wasn’t tested for other use cases and now it’s fixed for this one guy but broken for everyone else.

Boring IT infrastructure is great IT infrastructure.
