“There is a fear and shame [in organizations] of saying ‘I don’t know’.” – Bruno Pešec
When attempting to innovate, “I don’t know” in nothing to worry about or be ashamed of; the question is, what are you going to do about it?
- “I don’t know if the pricing is right.”
- “I don’t know if the market will accept it.”
- “I don’t know if our value proposition is that strong.”
- “I don’t know if we really outperform competitors/alternatives.”
- “I don’t know if we have the capabilities to pursue this.”
- “I don’t know whether the feature set is comprehensive enough.”
Heck, every single development-and-launch endeavor starts with a whole bunch of unknowns, especially when the team has in mind to deliver something novel and valuable (i.e., innovative).
Shift the narrative to “It’s OK to not know; now what?”
